Sports Day
Wednesday was "Sports Day" at school, which meant that the entire school participated in a giant soccer and basketball tournament. Every student played on either a soccer or basketball team, and each home room competed against each other for schoolwide glory. Not being a very big fan of basketball, I spent all day outside watching soccer. It was very cold, but it was nice to be outside anyway. You'll notice all the students are in shorts-- I was in my winter jacket, scarf and gloves and was still cold! They were freezing though at least, and many a student borrowed my gloves. Two students were especially excited to learn that they looked like Michael Jackson while they each wore one glove!
Also, you should note the picture taken at the opening ceremony. The students all sit in perfectly straight lines (except for the hooligans in the back) for every assembly, without ever moving- AND they are completely silent the whole time, no matter how long the assembly! I am constantly in awe of the discipline of the students in these situations. One of the teachers explained it to me, "we asked them to be quiet." If only we could do this in Canada!
